Musical Theatre
Musical Theatre Class is open
to all students ages 8-14.

During both Fall and Spring Semesters, students will discover how musical theatre is an exciting,
contemporary art form that involves telling stories through a seamless integration of dialogue,
song and dance, motivated by the demands of plot and character. Examining musical theatre
concepts through the lens of biblical scripture and research, students will explore:
- how music is used to convey character, emotion, and inform acting choices
- how the voice works and basic vocal techniques
- the importance of “singing with your eyes” to communicate the character’s intent
- theatre terminology and how to implement it properly
-acting games and warm-up activities through daily participation
- how dance and movement contribute to storytelling
- the importance of “acting a song” as opposed to just performing a song
- how to become a strong ensemble member
- the importance of keeping a journal reflecting what they’ve learned in class
- and so much more!

Students are welcome to try a musical theatre class for free and to invite other friends, ages 8-14,
to join them, even if they are not a current DT dancer (this class will focus much less on dance
technique). All students enrolled in the spring semester Musical Theatre Class will be cast in the
spring Musical Theatre Production.
On with the Show!
