Upper School Modern and Contemporary Classes

For ALL classes listed below – the REQUIRED attire is any solid colored leotard or unitard and black bottoms.

LEVEL 3
​
Beginning Contemporary
Building off jazz technique, this class introduces fusion of ballet and modern techniques. Students will learn foundational concepts from the Laban/Bartenieff and Limon release-based technique. They will continue strengthening coordination, flow of movement, and musicality to further their self-expression through dance.

By placement in Level III: One class per week.
Performing: One class per week to perform.
Attire: Ballet uniform and fitted black leggings.

Beginning Modern
Building off Beginning Contemporary, the Horton technique will continue advancing students’ body awareness and coordination. Horton is a linear technique developed to help dancers build the strength needed to perform high intensity movement safely. After completing Beginning Modern, students will have the foundational knowledge of Horton technique including multiple Preludes and Fortifications.
